Welcome from the Lord Mayor

The opportunity at this year’s event for people of all ages to connect with the theme of a ‘Green Life Balance’, provides us with a chance to think about  sustainability  through enjoyment, by doing things that matter, one thing and then another until we find the balance that will let us leave the place in better shape than we found it.

By gardening and looking at sustainability in terms of how we live with green lifestyles, make consumer choices through green marketing and how setting environmental values and goals generally, means that we can create and provide some wonderful opportunities as our City grows in development and population.

We all change the natural environment just by living in it and some of the solution lies in living within the earth’s means, planting gardens, recycling and making do with less.  In the end, addressing sustainability is a way to keep our footprint small and to address solutions to the question of ‘what can I do’ to meet the challenge of climate change.

Many hands – and ideas - do make light work.   Sharing knowledge and solutions which harness the experience of people who grow their own nutritious and sustainable food, with those who are designing their gardens to best meet the Northern Territory seasonal conditions by using water wise techniques, along with others who are committed in their lifestyle to the 3R’s of reduce, reuse and recycle for the protection of our natural resources, are great examples and showcase Darwin as a leader of the natural and cultural environment in the Top End.

Darwin City Council is proud to be a sponsor and is participating through the attendance of and presentations from our Parks, Climate Change and Environment Staff who look forward to meeting with visitors at the Darwin City Council display site.
