Welcome from the Environment Centre NT

Now in its third year, the Top End Sustainable Living Festival 2012 will run on 2 and 3 June at the beautiful Botanic Gardens in Darwin. Put it in your diary and plan to be there.

We’ve got a great line up of guest speakers, businesses selling sustainable products, community groups with info and inspiration, panel discussions, kids entertainers, films and music.

Our strong partnership with the Nursery & Garden Industry NT will see us again host the Festival with the popular Tropical Garden Spectacular. The partnership has helped both organisations to work through the everyday challenges we all face in being be more sustainable, whether in the garden, in business, at home, at school or in the office.

We have been working hard over recent months with our many partners to create a great weekend for you, your friends and your family.

With over 60 exhibitors there will be plenty to see and do. Listen to live music from great musicians, join in hands-on workshops, let the kids run wild, and listen to inspiring speakers.

There’s a bunch of invited guest speakers including sustainable transport expert Peter Newman, Costa from ABC TV’s Gardening Australia, DIY home cleaning guru Shannon Lush to talk us through environmentally friendly cleaning products, and more.

A lot of the hard work comes down to our dedicated staff and volunteers. Our new Festival Manager Meri Garnett brings a wealth of experience and passion for sustainability. He has organized sustainability festivals and is a professional permaculture gardener. He set up his own not-for-profit organisation to help people live greener. And at just 22 he rode around Australia with three mates to talk to school kids about the many simple things we can all do to help look after the environment.

Thanks to the members of the Festival Steering Committee for their great ideas and enthusiasm: the EPA, City of Darwin, NT Environment Department, City of Palmerston, COOLMob, and the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens.

Thanks to our sponsors, particularly our main sponsors the Territory Government, Power and Water Corporation and City of Darwin. Thanks also to sponsors the EPA and Bowden McCormack Lawyers + Advisers.

I look forward to seeing you there!
